Bioluminescence Tour
Bioluminescence is a natural occurrence caused by algae. There are few places in the world where this phenomenon can be experienced and Hopkins offers a unique vantage point. Beneath a new moon when the stars are at their brightest, this boat tour takes you to Anderson Lagoon. In the darkness, you’ll notice a neon glow surrounding the boat. This bright blue glow is caused by the bioluminescent algae. You’ll also be able to spot jellyfish and schools of fish darting around. This tour is seasonal and is best done during dry season under a new moon to experience the full magic.

South Water Reef Snorkel
This adventure departs from our dock and includes a scenic 30 minute boat ride to the South Water Caye marine reserve. Ahead lies the famous Belize Barrier Reef, the longest unbroken barrier reef system in the world. It is a massive coastal system teeming with marine life and offering unsurpassed opportunities for snorkeling. Your activity includes two snorkel stops for approximately 45 minutes each, allowing you adequate time to explore the vibrant reef system.

Island Hopping and Snorkeling
As you depart for the cayes 14 miles offshore, you will come across the Belize Barrier Reef, the longest living barrier reef in the world. There are two stops on this tour, South Water Caye and Tobacco Caye, where you can set foot on each island and explore. Then head out to snorkel and experience the wild and colorful reef that Belize has to offer. Before heading back inland, you’ll stop at the nesting grounds of Bird Island (Man- O-War Caye), which is a protected island and home to the frigate birds and brown footed boobies.

Xunantunich Archaeological Site and Inland Blue Hole
Located in the Cayo District, the archaeological site Xunantunich is an excellent tour for all ages. To access Xunantunich, you will cross the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry. Xunantunich, which translates to “Maiden of the Rock”, is best known for El Castillo, the second highest structure in Belize. This site consists of six major Mayan plazas and 25 temples. Highlights include stelae carved into the facade of the Mayan temples and amazing views for those adventurous enough to scale to the top. Hop back into the van and stop at St. Herman’s Blue Hole for a quick dip.

Sittee River Cruise and Wildlife Tour

St. Herman’s Cave Tubing Adventure
This tour begins with a drive up the scenic Hummingbird Highway to the Blue Hole National Park. Your guide will lead you through a 10 minute hike through the jungle to the entrance of St. Herman's Cave. Enter the exciting world of rivers disappearing into the underworld as you float on inner tubes with only your headlamp to light your way. Enjoy floating past side windows that filter the jungle light through the mist as you swirl around stalagmites jutting from the river and stalactites looming from above.

Jungle Zipline and River Tubing Adventure at Mayan Sky
Hop into one of our comfortable vans and take an hour’s drive down the scenic Hummingbird Highway. Once fitted with your harness and safety equipment, you will be guided through a short trail and soar 500 feet above the South Stann Creek River on the jungle zipline. You’ll cross a suspended bridge and experience a panoramic view when zipping half a mile across on all seven lines. You will then go on a two-minute walk where you will be provided with inner tubes to float down the Stann Creek River and feel the refreshing water while listening to the tranquil sounds of the jungle, accompanied by a guide who will point out the flora and fauna as you go along.

Maya Chocolate Tour
At a local cacao farm, you’ll be able to see cacao pods fresh off the tree with the seed still covered in sweet fleshy fruit. You’ll be taken through the entire process of traditional chocolate making which includes grinding the cacao into a paste with a mortar and pestle. You will learn about the history and significance of cacao in the Mayan culture, including its use as currency. The chocolate paste you created will set in the fridge and you’ll be able to taste organic chocolate, handmade by you, straight from the source.

Barrier Reef Light Tackle Sport Fishing
Reef fishing is the most popular fishing trip with our guests. Most of the fishing in Belize is done inside the reef, along the mangrove channels and within the cayes. The Belize coastline offers the ideal ecosystem for a wide variety of marine life. Once outside the reef, you will be able to watch your guide use a traditional cast net to catch sardines for bait. Snappers, barracuda, jacks and grouper are some of the more common catches on a day trip. Spin casting and trolling are the most common techniques used by local fishing guides.

Silk Caye Snorkeling Adventure
Snorkel along one of Belize’s healthiest marine reserves at Silk Caye. You will have two snorkel stops. After refueling with a Belizean-style lunch, you’ll splash back in at Turtle Alley, famous for attracting throngs of nurse sharks, sting rays, and sea turtles.

Jaguar Preserve Night Time Exploration
This tour is ideal for nature lovers and intrepid travelers. You will take a 45-minute drive down the Southern Highway until you get to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary where the only Jaguar Preserve in the world is located. You’ll hike in this unique sanctuary which covers an area of about 150 square miles of tropical forest. It is estimated that over 80 resident jaguars are in the area. If you’re lucky, you may spot fresh jaguar tracks. Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to all five of Belize’s wild cats: the jaguar, puma, margay, jaguarondi, and ocelot. Belize’s national animal, the endangered Baird’s tapir, also inhabits the basin; 290 different species of birds have been recorded.

Jaguar Preserve River Tubing Adventure
This tour takes you to the rainforest at the Jaguar Preserve. Since this tour is during the day time, you may spot jaguar tracks but are not likely to see the nocturnal jaguars. You will gather your inner tubes and start a hike into the jungle that is approximately 15 to 20 minutes long. From there, you will float on inner tubes down the South Stann Creek River. The river is shallow and serene. Vegetation along the river is beautiful as you quietly float amongst the birds and foliage. After approximately 45 minutes, you will hike back to the starting point.

Jaguar Preserve Waterfall Hike
The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is the world’s only preserve of its kind. With this tour, you will be able to take a hike through well-established trails within the Jaguar Preserve, which contains the highest density of jaguars ever recorded. Along the way, you may see evidence of jaguars and other mammals such as howler monkeys, tapirs, or peccaries. The preserve is also a haven for 290 bird species. You’ll be able to enjoy a refreshing swim at the waterfall's pools.

Mayflower Waterfall Hiking
Mayflower National Park boasts incredible trails with the Antelope Falls hike at the top of the list. This trail guides you along with steep steps and ropes to the top of the 1,000 feet waterfalls. Keep your eyes open for sightings of wildlife as you reconnect with the earth below you. Once at the top, take a refreshing dip in the waterfall’s pool with breathtaking views of the jungle. Mayflower is also home to ancient Maya sites that are still being uncovered by archeologists.

Monkey River Wildlife & Village Tour
With the starting point in Placencia Village, your guide will take you on a boat ride down the southern coast, inland, and up the Monkey River, where you'll view the beautiful flora and fauna of the broadleaf-subtropical forest. Iguanas dive into the water, troops of howler monkeys race through the forest, birds dart from tree to tree, crocodiles sun themselves on the river banks. You will also stop for a hike where your guide will point out medicinal plants and other wildlife. You'll have lunch in the remote village of Monkey River and experience the friendly hospitality of this small fisherfolk village, home to about 200 residents. After lunch, you will return to Placencia and back to the resort.

Garifuna Cooking Class at Jaguar Reef
The Garifuna people come from a history of migration and first settled in St. Vincent. They arrived in Belize in 1802, fleeing civil war in Honduras. They brought with them their tradition, culture, and food. One of their most well-known traditional meals is hudut, which is a fish coconut stew served with plantain. In this class, you’ll learn to make your very own hudut using traditional cooking techniques. Afterward, enjoy the fruit of your labor.

Scarlet Macaw Tour
Scarlet macaws are one of the most magnificent birds in Belize. From December to April every year, scarlet macaws leave their nesting grounds in the Chiquibul Rainforest and fly to the small Mayan village of Red Bank in South Stann Creek to feed. Scarlet macaws are one of the precious species of birds in Belize known for their iconic colors and long wingspan. In this area you may even spot Belize’s national bird, the keel-billed toucan. Take a short walk down to the river and have a cool swim before heading back to the lodge for lunch.

Sorrel, a relative to hibiscus and native to West Africa, has long been used to make wines and is a Belizean tradition especially in the Kriol culture where wine would be made in preparation of visits around Christmas by neighbors. Here we are utilizing the essence of the plant to render a slightly tart yet refreshing cocktail reminiscent of a daiquiri.
